The Coming War of Gog and Magog

Blessings grace and peace be with you in the majestic name of our Lord and King Jesus Christ!  As many Christians and people across America and around the world are aware of recent events pertaining to what is happening with Russia and the Ukraine, as well as the recent attempts by the U.S. to broker a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians, all must understand that Bible prophecy is being fulfilled right before our eyes. The following information will stimulate your interest and also reveal the need to pray for America, salvation of souls and the nation of Israel as we journey into the fulfillment of end-time prophecy.  Please share it and leave your comments.

The winds of war are brewing in the Middle East and they aren’t the “run of the mill, what you see on the news, day after day, year after year” skirmishes between Israel and their neighboring adversaries. Ezekiel Chapter 38 portrays Gog as a conquering military leader. If Putin is Gog as many observers suspect, Crimea and Georgia may just be the beginning. It is a war of great magnitude that is thought to be the trigger war that will culminate in Armageddon. And interestingly enough Jews, Muslims and Christians seem to agree on the basic premise that indeed, an “end of days war” in the making right before our eyes.

Jews are talking about the possibility that Russia’s annexation of Crimea is a prophesied sign that Messiah is soon to come. Sunni and Shi’ite Muslims fighting each other in Syria believe the battle there will spread to Israel and is their sign that that a global Caliphate (supreme religious and political leader; successor to Mohammad) will be soon be established and the Shi’ite messiah figure, the Imam Madi will soon appear.

Bible-believing Christians have been intensely watching events in the Middle East for the past several years as they have noted the gradual development of a tight military relationship between Iran and Russia, the key aggressors in the end-times war on Israel described in Ezekiel Chapters 38 and 39, commonly referred to as the war of Gog Magog. And now, Israeli news writer for, Chemi Shaley, says, “observers are closely watching developments in the Ukraine based on the idea that it could generate the conflict with Gog and Magog, one of the Bible’s heralds of the end times and the return of the Messiah.”

Jews view the war of Gog and Magog as the event which immediately precedes messianic days, as Shaley notes, “Christians aren’t the only ones who are getting excited about the standoff in Eastern Europe. According to a report catching fire over the weekend in the Haredi press in Israel, the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Shternbuch told his disciples this week that the times of the Messiah are upon us. And who is the source for his amazing analysis? None other than one of the top Jewish sages of all time, the Vilna Gaon himself, the Gra, ‘the genius of Vilnius,’ the famously harsh critic of Hasidic Judaism.” The report continues, “According to Shternbuch, he is privy to a closely guarded secret handed down from the 18th Century Vilna Gaon through generations of revered rabbis: ‘When you hear that the Russians have captured the city of Crimea, you should know that the times of the Messiah have started, that his steps are being heard. And when you hear that the Russians have reached the city of Constantinople (today’s Istanbul), you should put on your Shabbat clothes and don’t take them off, because it means that the Messiah is about to come any minute."

Chemi Shaley writes that Josephus Flavius, “the turncoat Jewish historian who chronicled the Masada saga,” theorized the Scythians, who lived in the central Eurasian region until the 4th century, lived in the land of Magog, “as in Gog and Magog, as in the war of Gog and Magog, as in the biblical prelude to the End of Days.” “Which is one of the many reasons why recent events in the Ukraine have created a buzz among legions of apocalypse-anticipating true believers. This could be the real thing, they tell themselves, the big time, the major leagues, not the end of the beginning, to quote Winston Churchill in reverse, but the beginning of the end. And it is Vladimir Putin, aka Gog, aka King of the North, who has set things in motion.”

“You only have to read Ezekiel chapters 38-39, the widely accepted handbook and screenplay for the upcoming decimation. According to traditional translations of verse 2 of Chapter 38, Gog is the ‘chief prince of Meshech and Tuval,’ ancient kingdoms also near the Black Sea. But the term used for ‘chief prince’ in Hebrew is ‘nesi rosh’: Nesi could also mean ‘ruler’ or ‘president,’ and some scholars believe that ‘rosh’ is not an adjective, at all, but a noun denoting the name of yet another nation that will enter the fray. So Gog is the prince of Rosh, or the president of Rosh, or, with a little bit of help, the president of Russia.”
“And who will ride with Gog? Why Persia, of course, as specified in verse 5. And possibly Turkey, Libya and Sudan, though only Turkey seems capable these days. And why will they all gang up on Israel?

The Internet site Remnant Report explains: 1) To acquire more territory (Ezekiel 38:8). 2) To plunder Israel’s wealth (38:12) (Israel’s newly discovered vast reserves of natural gas and oil in the Mediterranean, of course, CS). 3) To destroy the Jews (38:11, 16). And 4) To challenge the authority of the Antichrist who will temporarily be Israel’s ally due to a treaty mentioned in Daniel 9:27, ‘That ruler will have a firm agreement with many people for seven years.’”

Mariam Karouny reports that “Iranian forces battle anti Shi’ite fighters in Damascus and the region braces for an ultimate showdown” which is expected to spread to Jerusalem. From the Islamic viewpoint, the Syrian conflict appears to be the fulfillment of prophetic expectations foretold by the prophet Mohammed in the 7th century and many of his current day followers, in particular the Sunni and Shi’ite sects who are battling against one another in the belief that they are fighting the battle that will lead to the establishment of an “Islamic state which will rule the world before total chaos.” Karouny writes, “the hadith, or sayings of the prophet Mohammed and his companions, have been handed down orally over the centuries and are the most important sources of authority in Islam after the Quaran itself. Many date back to those medieval battlefields in what are now Syria and Iraq, where the two main Islamic sects took shape.”

Both the Sunni and Shi’ite Hadith mention Syria as a main battlefield, naming cities and towns where blood will be spilled.” “Hundreds of thousands of people will be killed. The whole region will be shaken from the Arabian peninsula to Iraq, Iraq and Jerusalem, according to some texts.” “Syria’s civil war built upon sectarian conflicts elsewhere, especially in Iraq and Lebannon, is leading to a growing sense across the region that all those power struggles in individual countries were part of a titanic battle for the future.”
“Abu Hsaasan, a 65 year-old pensioner from southern Lebanon, said he once thought the prophecies of the end of days would take centuries to come about.” “Things are moving fast. I never thought that I would be living the day of the Imam. Now, with every passing day, I am more and more convinced that it is only a matter of a few years before he appears.”   [Ref. Columnest, Maryann Gearheart, April 2014]

Even Muslims comprehend what time it is, and the prophetic nature of the day that we are living in while much of the "Church" is geared to a "seeker friendly" agenda that creates a lukewarm spiritual diet that is almost completely void of emphasis on holiness, daily Bible reading, unity, prayer and submission to pastors as spiritual watchmen and shepherds in accordance with the Word of God. This is a time for sobriety, prayer and faithful submission the the Great Commission. Not only is it extremely clear and evident that we are living in the last days, but most importantly we must focus our attention on preparing ourselves spiritually for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ for His bride, the Church.

Once again Apostle Bethtina Williams has hit the bulls eye with this insightful blog. The return of the Lord is near and Biblical Prophecy is playing a major part in revealing the signs of the times. Presently on the stage of world events we see the Bible unfolding before our eyes through economic, political, environment as well as military events. The Bible says in Luke 21:28, "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." I am encouraging everyone to not only read but comment on this blog it is truly exciting to have such a comprehensive understanding on what is happening in our world as well as in the kingdom of God.

It is truly evident and clear that we are living in the last days and Jesus can appear at any given moment. We are living in a day and age were we can't play Christians, we must be Christians for real. We must be like the five wise virgins who was ready when the husbandman showed up. My pray is, Lord help us to live Rapture Ready, In Jesus Name, Amen!!! God bless you, Apostle Beth. Love ya!!!!

Nikki, your contribution to our community blog is so valuable, and we appreciate you for sharing your comments with us. It is true that Jesus Christ is soon to come, and the "handwriting is on the wall" so to speak. More importantly, every Christian needs to be prepared and in readiness not just in verbal statements alone, but in action doing the will of the Father while it is day, because "the night cometh when no man shall be able to work." Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us, and God bless you!!

I have been blessed with empowerment @, my,, place of worship. Being taught how to approach God, what step take to have the power of God manifest in my life, and recognizing that has purpose for me and all other christians. Thats beneficial and neccessary! But I have come to understand that Our great God has also in his immeasureable love has given us Bible prophecy encourage and strengthen us. I have really come to understand and Get the understanding 2 Timothy 3:16, 17. All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for us. Understand Bible prophecy combined with our worship, praise, prayer, Bible reading and fellowship will help us be watchful and keep awake in this amazing time we live in! Bible prophecy is the reason I love watching current events in the news, both national and global. To see Bible prophecy that i have read unfold and be fulfilled. But at the same time being careful not to let myself interpret prophecy but letting the Bible itself interpret it. IN CLOSING, The Ungers Bible Dictionary page 892 gives great insight on the purpose of Prophecy. I will go into the thing stuck out to me: It says that prophecy is not for just idle curiousity or just common head knowledge. That it was for the purpose of strengthening and confirming the faith for the people of Go - for those whose faith need confirming. Also, it talks of times when the children of Israel faith was strengthen and confirmed countries like Tyre and some other enemies of Isreal. Thank yo for th for this great insight! Please supply more!

We are living in the final hour. All of the signs have been presented to us through the worldwide events that are occurring that directly coincide with prophesies mentioned in scripture. The issue this posses for Christians is not just being "ready" but to be " working". Psalms 91, guarantees us protection from; destruction, terror and plague, but only as the result of us making "The Lord" our dwelling place. If you dwell in the presence of God, His image will consume you, meaning you will genuinely live for Him and take on His character. We serve a "working" God, He is always in motion; therefore we should be as well. We should be active in our witness to others, sharing the love and heart of Christ, and ministering salvation to the lost. God bless you and thank you Apostle Beth for sharing this powerful and informative blog.

Toiya, thank you for sharing your comments on our community blog. They certainly are right on target! I really like how you mentioned Psalm 91, and God's promise to protect the righteous during times when the world is experiencing terrible things. Our responsibility is to continue to serve the Lord and be ready for the return of our Lord and King Jesus Christ, because He shall come back again. God bless you!!

Very informative blog. There's too much occurring for us not to recognize we are coming closer to Jesus return. It's time to know our roles within the body of Christ. When a person truly knows their role in any area of life, they're able to walk with understanding. Thank you Apostle Beth for sharing with all of us and helping us walk with understanding.

Candice, you're correct in citing that "there's too much occurring for us not to recognize we are coming closer to Jesus return." Unfortunately, there are still people throughout the body of Christ who are living from day to day without changing their ways or submitting themselves to the changing transformational process of the Word of God. Many are still living as though things will continue on as they have always been, while the rest of the world is being weighed in the balance and precious souls are at stake. This all means that we must do everything that we can to present the true image, love, and message of our Lord Jesus Christ in such a way that sinners will be converted to the Father before the end comes. We must live every day with understanding and urgency because the time is short. God bless you!!

This blog is very informative. Great knowledge and such tremendous wisdom has been provided concerning the war of Gog and Magog. What He said will happen is going to happen. God is not a man that He shall lie nor is He the son of man that He shall repent. The word of God gives us a bird's eye view of life and events that occur throughout the earth. Sobriety, prayer, and faithful submission to the Great Commission allows us to effectively share His message of love and salvation to win souls for His Kingdom, even in times such as these and those to come.
