God is Interested In the Desires of Your Heart!

"Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."  Psalms 37:4-5
What is the desire of the heart of a good man? It is this, to know, and love, and serve God. To delight in God is as much a privilege as a duty. God has not promised to gratify the appetites of the body, and humors of the our carnal minds, but the desires of the renewed, sanctified soul. When we commit the direction, goals and desires of    our hearts to God and seek His counsel out of a heart that is sold out   to serving His purposes and plans for our lives, He will give us the clarity that we need, and establish the desires of our hearts.
When your heart has been renewed by the word of God it will be very important to you that your desires and choices are pleasing to Him.   You will never take things for granted, but rather consider it an honor to commit everything unto the Lord.  There are certain areas of importance to be considered in establishing clearly defined goals and achieving them.  For instance:
1) Your personal goals must be true in adherence to your core values.
2) They must be meaningful to you.
3) Ensure that your goals are clearly defined, specific, and measurable.
4) They must be flexible, not rigid so that you can change up or alter them if necessary.
5) Your goals must stretch you, and be challenging.
6) They should be exciting to you.
7) Your goals must contribute to the enrichment and welfare of others in some way.
8) Be accountable to someone that you trust for accomplishing your goals.
Once you have implemented these principles in pursuit of your goals you will be on your way to experiencing greater levels of accomplishment and success.  Remember that God desires for you to prosper and reach the highest degree of joy and fulfillment in life as you seek to do His will first, and acknowledge Him in all your ways. "Trust Him, and He will bring it to pass."
I look forward to hearing from you.  So feel free to join the blog and leave your comments.

Well said! The implementation of these principles are necessary. The Father's Goals for our lives will always take us through stretching processes. This can be challenging for many people because it forces us out of our comfort zone into new realms that we have never seen before. Without the stretching processes, experiencing greater levels of accomplishment and success will be difficult. Have faith in the stretching processes.

The stretching process is never pleasant or comfortable, but when we allow it to take place with the understanding that it will bring us into greater dimensions of maturity, experience, and victory, we can embrace it and allow the stretching process to run it's full coarse. Many times the desires of our hearts have things associated with them which require more of us, and we must be willing to pay the price necessary to receive them. If we are willing to pay the price, then we can enjoy the rewards that follow.

In the book of Ecclesiastes Solomon states that the whole duty of man is to fear the Lord and follow His statues. Ecclesiastes 12:13, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." When God's will takes priority in your life God delights in giving you your desires. God will not bless carnal desires nor will God indulge the flesh nature. However, He will honor faithfulness and commitment to His purposes. Everything that we have belongs to God and without God we would not have anything. We should commit our all to Him so that He can clarify and guide us into our full destinies.

Thank you for your comments Dr. Williams. I believe that the "fear of the Lord" encompasses our love and respect for Him in light of His awesome greatness, and because we honor God from whom all our blessings come, we will also acknowledge Him in all of our ways so that His greatest will comes to pass in our lives. When we delight ourselves in Him, He will give us the desires of our hearts, because God will withhold nothing good from those who walk uprightly before Him. Our joy should come from knowing that God loves us and wants the very best for us, especially when we align our heart's desires with His will.

Music has always been the love of my life to the point that I believe I made it my god.And with the asisstance of 1 or 2 choice drugs it was easy for me to find myself just about as far from realty as I wanted to be.Thankfully due to Gods mercy and longsuffering I am still here today and can enjoy the reality of this God given love for music. I still have soo much to learn. But I am excited to say that the music I love today comes from the love of God within me. Gods amazing grace gives me the melody and the words and I still cant read a note! Blessings in Christ!!!

Hi Susan, It is truly God's mercy and grace that has kept all of us, even when we were in sin. It was His loving-kindness that brought us out into a place of understanding that we must put Him first above all of our desires and interests. I am reminded of Matthew 6:33, which instructs us to "..Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." It's great that you love music, and now you are able to put your passion into perspective by putting God first. Then He will bless you as you continue to delight yourself in Him. Glory to God!

Proverbs 4:7 states "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.vs 8 "Exalt her, and she will promote you; she will bring you honor, when you embrace her." When we embrace the ways of God and grab on to the wisdom of his Word we are not only granted the desires of our renewed mind but prolonged life and security.

You're amazing Toiya, wisdom is the principle thing, and it begins with the fear of the Lord. Wisdom causes us to do what is right. It causes us to prioritise properly, put God first by diligently seeking to do His will above our own fleshly appetites, and by delighting ourselves in Him because we love Him with all our hearts. Then we can see the glory and favor of God manifest in our lives even as He has promised in His word according to Psalm 37:4-5.

Yes, Brian God is faithful to us in so many incredible ways. He remains faithful even when we're not, but when we come into alignment with Him so many things work out better, and we experience the joy of obtaining great victories in God. God bless you.

I have found that as I commit my ways to God, seek Him, and include Him in every aspect of my life, my day is ordered, more structured, and I have a clear view of the things that are in front of me. Only God knows the best routes I should take and the streets or intersections I should avoid as I proceed along life's rode to reaching my goals and fulfilling my destiny. He truly is my help! Thank you Dr. Bethtina for your insight and sound instruction.

Hello Dr. Beth, after reading this blog I see clearly how your first two sentences have summed up this entire blog. When God created man (according to Gen 1:26-27) He created man in His own image and likeness and then in verse 28 of the same chapter He commands man to be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth...When Adam fell because of the disobedience, we have struggled with who we were created to be. God has consistantly showed us throughout the bible how to become what we were before the fall. This particular passage of scripture "Psalm 37:4-5" signifies to me that the element of freewill is in effect, we have the choice to choose between our carnal desires or to delight ourselves in the Father who created us. The former receives the fruit within itself but the latter receives all of the blessings that God has promised as we commit our ways and trust in Him to guide our spirits into the path of rightouseness, thus becoming one with His word and thoughts for our lives(Jeremiah 29:11), we will achieve greater levels of accomplishments and success, for He shall bring it to pass...

After reading the insightful words above, the scripture John 15:1-7 came to my mind. The importance of staying connected to Jesus is discussed within these verses. Jesus spoke of a method for bearing fruit. The method is simple. “If we abide in Jesus, and let His words abide in us, we have the ability to ask whatever we desire, and it will be prepared for us”. I’ve learned God takes us seriously when we begin to take Him seriously. If we commit to Him, He will commit Himself to us. God is a God that stands firm on His word. This is why it’s imperative that we delight ourselves in the Lord. By doing this, we will take on His attributes. Once we have taken on His characteristics, He’ll respond quickly to our desires simply because they’re His very own desires. In other words, we should be at a place where His desires have become our own desires. The principles given above are truly significant. They principles cause one to do great things. This is what God desires from and for us. He desires that we prosper! He desires that we go beyond the norm and go where He originally planned for us to go.

Candice, Your insight is very good and on target. When we delight ourselves in Jesus Christ and abide in Him allowing His words to become the foundation and standard of our hearts and lives, our desires will correspondingly come into alignment with His and we will receive those things that we earnestly desire because they are in alignment with God's heart also.

Psalm 37: 4-5 Is one of my favorites. It inspires me to delight myself in the Lord when my flesh says otherwise. It gives me confidence and supernatural strength to press toward the mark of the high calling of Jesus Christ. At some point in our lives we will encounter trials and tribulation but the word of God tells us that if we delight ourselves in God and trust him with our whole heart he will give us our hearts desires. This scripture has helped me through a lot of (for lack of a better term) firey circumstances. Overall, Psalms 37: 4-5 has strengthen my Faith in God.

Shena, your comments are wonderful, and are truly heartfelt. When we experience challenging trials in life those are the times in which we should hold fast to the promises of God's word even more. He will keep His word and promises at all times, and I believe that God is especially pleased when He sees us continuing to delight ourselves in Him in-spite those difficult and challenging circumstances. Stay encouraged and God bless you.

Hey there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any problems with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing months of hard work due to no data backup. Do you have any solutions to protect against hackers?
